The majority of Edmonton's multifamily development utilizes wood frame construction and sprawling paved areas to accommodate parking requirements. East Hampton Rise will be built with steel, concrete and glass - all renewable materials. Only half of the total land area (3.07 acres) will be occupied with buildings and drive/parking areas while the balance will be devoted to beautiful landscaped greenery.
Geothermal heating and cooling allows East Hampton Rise to leave a very small "carbon footprint". The reduced CO2 contribution to the environment is equivelant to planting thousands of trees annually.
Outside, the area will be landscaped with low maintenance grass which will be irrigated with rainwater collected in a central pond and reused as required. An existing beautiful, old growth forest will remain largely untouched by the new development and will remain as a visual boundary from the west while providing shade to the grounds.
Lit by solar lamps, walking and skating paths will add a wonderful outdoor amenity for local residents.
